Are you ready when he comes

Are you ready when he comes

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Are you ready when he comes? God will show up any time so you need to be ready at all times. When I was younger I didn’t understand this nor did I care. I don’t want you to be unprepared when Jesus returns for his people like I used to be.

Here are some verses below that explains what will happen when Jesus returns. These verses will get you to thinking.

Matthew 25:1-13

1 At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

The virgins and their lamps

I’m going to break the verses down for you. It is a parable but it has so much meaning.

Verse 1 = At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

The virgins are people who claim to be Christ followers and the bridegroom is Jesus. The lamps represent our light and we need to run our race well by keeping our lights shining. Dig into the word and learn what it means.

The Wikipedia says the oil lamp and its light were an important household item to see in the dark. It is said that the oil is a metaphor for the Holy Spirit. That could explain its symbolism about how important light (Holy Spirit). should be for us.

Five foolish and five wise

Verses 2-5 = Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

The wise virgins were ready and prepared. They took time and energy to do what the bridegroom (Jesus) asked them to do. Five unwise virgins did half of what was asked of them. Many people only do some of what God has asked of them. God wants your all not just half of you. Either you are all in are all out.

We know that Jesus is coming and it seems like forever before he comes. Don’t get caught being lazy and not intentionally trying to get to know him. God wants you to long for a relationship with him on a daily basis. It is easy to get into a rut of not going to church, not reading your Bible, not praying and not living for him!

Verses 6-9 = “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

The bridegroom (Jesus) is coming to take you to the banquet (heaven). Do not expect someone else to get you to heaven. You need to be completely prepared and realize that just going to church every Sunday isn’t the ticket to going to heaven. Become spiritually prepared and make him Lord of your life. Breathe him, think of him constantly and depend on him.

The regretful virgins were too late

Verse 10 = 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

When the second coming of Christ happens, it is like a thief in the night (1 Thessalonians 5:2). It will happen quickly when no one is expecting it. Five virgins were ready and five were not so they did NOT attend the banquet (heaven). What a sad day that will be when it comes.

Are you ready when he comes

Verses 11 – 13 = 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

It would be awful to be the unwise virgins. I would feel robbed because I somewhat tried to do my best. Be the 5 virgins that were prepared and know where you are going when Jesus comes back.
